BreakfastReno’s

[rating:3]

Reno’s Restaurant, housed in the Lee building on East Broadway, is an old school greasy spoon. It’s one of those restaurants that many are aware exists, but have never set foot inside. From the outside, it looks deceptively cold and institutional, brightened by a few splashes of neon lights. The only signs of life behind the big reflective picture windows are somewhat visible diners that appear to be in their own world on the other side of the glass.

Out of TownTin Shed Garden Cafe

[rating:4]

The line ups form early at Portland’s Tin Shed Garden Cafe, a hippie-like breakfast joint that boasts all the right, earth-friendly buzz words: organic, free range, local, and hormone-free. They even compost their own leftovers. All good qualities, but we suspect the customers line up for more than just the good will.

LunchGreen Lemongrass on Kingsway

[rating:3]

Green Lemongrass is a Vietnamese restaurant on Kingsway, the latest location to open up in Vancouver. We’ve been to the Richmond location and enjoyed their duck noodle soup a number of times, so we thought it was time to pay the Vancouver location a visit.

Out of TownPig-n-Pancake

[rating:3]

Portland’s Pig-n-Pancake is a rare blend of family-owned and run business and entrepreneurial ingenuity. It’s doubtful this tiny chain of breakfast restaurants with a smiling pig as a mascot will give an empire like Denny’s a run for their money, but they appear to have the West coast of Oregon on lock.

ManagementThree Year

Yesterday marked three years since we first started writing about Vancouver restaurants. Since that time Noshwell has grown in both readership and posts. We’ve even taken our show on the road to Portland, Maui and a brief stop at Los Angeles, and we’ve brought you — our readers — along with us for the ride.

We’ve seen the food blogging scene in Vancouver grow from a small group of outspoken and curious diners to a full on food mob. It’s also gone beyond blogs. Twitter and Facebook are increasingly becoming ripe mediums for discussing all things food.

We are, of course, deeply dedicated to Vancouver. It is Noshwell’s bread and butter. We are excited about all the new boutique restaurants, old greasy spoons, diverse ethnic restaurants, and the introduction of food carts. It’s going to be another exciting year.

Thank you for continuing to read Noshwell. And as we have done in the past, we present in no particular order, our most memorable meals for the past year:

1. La Brasserie
2. Aloha Mixed Plate (Maui)
3. Zakkushi Charcol Grill on Main
4. Campagnolo
5. Kingston 11 Reggae Cafe
