Marble Slab Creamery, a Texan franchise, is part of the redevelopment that has been happening along the West Broadway corridor near Cambie over the past few years. I’ve always found Ice Cream joints a curiously popular phenomenon in Vancouver. But Marble Slab brings a little twist with a fancy, frozen marble slab.

Meinhardt Cafe on Granville street is located right next to the upscale grocery store that bears the same name. We had stopped by the market to pick up a few items and decided to pop in to the cafe to take a quick break.

Fortune House Seafood Restaurant in Metrotown serves up consistently solid dim sum in a more upscale than usual environment. Dim Sum can be both a harrowing and rewarding experience. Regardless of the venue, it usually involves some sort of physical activity (primarily concerning the elbows). Fortune House is no different, although its comparatively luxurious decor necessitates are more subtle approach — arrive early, or take a number and wait. Elbows are a last resort.

Angkor is a restaurant, so named for a historically significant region in Cambodia, which echoes the origin of the cuisine they serve. It sits in the middle of a lonely plaza on the corner of 33rd and Victoria sandwiched between an aging laundromat and a relatively new Chinese restaurant.

Sea Monstr (with the “e” purposefully dropped like it was a hot Silicon Valley startup) Sushi is Gastown’s answer to a dearth of sushi spots. This could easily become the hipster spot that’s high on vibe and branding and low on delivering actual sushi. Is this hype, or can one find decent sushi in Gassy Jack’s hood?
