TakeoutRangoli

[rating:3]

It’s one of those days when Tre and I just don’t feel like cooking, but we don’t want the usual greasy take out items. It would be nice to eat some gourmet food at home without slaving over the stove, so we thought we would try Rangoli’s for dinner. Rangoli’s is a market/diner located right next door to the well known Vij’s. This hip market diner has a variety of packaged frozen and refrigerated ready to eat meals prepared in these cool boil-a bags, which you just take home and heat up yourself. You can also order the items there and eat in the dining area, but it can get quite busy and space is pretty limited. The packaging is slick and is not typical for your average take out. They have a nice selection: different kinds of curried meats, veggies and desserts.

Beard Papa\'s

Beard Papa’s is a sweet treat that was started in Osaka Japan. These tasty puffs come filled with flavored custard and sprinkled with a light dusting of powdered sugar. We had stumbled upon this place by noticing the huge line ups at Aberdeen’s food court. Tre and I walk up to the counter and notice these deliciously cute looking puffs filled with cream inside. People were ordering them like crazy. At $1.75 a pop I found them to be a bit pricey. But the price isn’t the only thing inflated, the sign posted on the front states that each cream puff is a mere 230 calories each. Yikes! That’s a fair amount especially if you consider some people are likely to eat more than one. You’re going to have to run around the entire seawall to burn off some of those puffs.

Bodhi Choi Heung Vegetarian Restaurant

Located on Fraser St., it’s quite easy to pass by this dive without a second glance. Looking from the outside, you wouldn’t think it would be a popular restaurant with the locals, but it is. They serve all types of Asian vegetarian specialties and the food here is pretty good. Once in awhile Tre and I have a craving for some home style cooked vegetarian food. They have numerous vegetarian friendly goodies, from the chef’s special to a mixed variety of bean curds — all leading to a satisfying meal.

Liberty Bakery Cafe

Liberty Bakery is a no frills, rustic bakery and coffee shop located on 21st and Main. It’s right around the corner from a few or our favorite clothing boutiques. After hitting the Main Street strip, Tre and I like to come here and grab something sweet before we head home. They have many tempting looking sweets to choose from, it could take you awhile to decide.

New York Style Muffin Top

The other day, Case and I were walking by the new Marketplace IGA at West Broadway. We decided to pop in to grab some dessert. As we were perusing the bakery, a lone display caught the corner of my eye. What’s this — Muffin tops? I immediately had flashbacks of the Seinfeld muffin top episode where Mr. Littman become fascinated with Elaine eating only the muffin top and discarding the stumps.
