BreakfastHell’s Kitchen
[rating:3]

No, it isn’t that Hell’s Kitchen. If you’re expecting an especially angry Gordon Ramsay to jump out of the kitchen and start berating you, you’ll be sorely disappointed. What you will find though, is a quaint little restaurant on West 4th with an open patio. As we walk in, the atmosphere feels more like a pub. It’s a casual joint, but despite the super sunny weather, it’s pretty dark — with a musty scent wafting through the air. The nice hostess seats us outside the patio in a slightly cramped but cozy little area.

DinnerSushiyama
[rating:4]

There are a couple of things Vancouver doesn’t have a shortage of — rain is one of then, the other is sushi restaurants. It seems like everyday a new little sushi place pops up. But not all sushi shops are created equal. If the place isn’t clean, or it smells like your local fish monger, our ass is heading straight out the door. Which brings us to this little joint on East Broadway, Sushiyama, a cramped little hole-in-the-wall of the non-fishy variety. As you walk in, the first thing you’ll notice is that the decor is pretty plain. The right side of the restaurant is carpeted with a few tables and the left side recently expanded with more seating — and finally has a real cashier. The ambience isn’t anything great or bad, pretty standard stuff really.

LunchSo.Cial Butchershop and Deli at Le Magasin
So.Cial the butcher shop and deli have closed and been replaced with NU, a Greek restaurant.

So.Cial is actually two restaurants—the first is a sit down restaurant with an oyster bar serving West Coast type fare. The other, is a custom butchershop and deli. During our Gastown excursions, Case and I have often passed by So.Cial, which is housed in a heritage building called Le Magasin that straddles both Water Street and Cordova.
