DinnerHon’s Wun-Tun House

[rating: 3]

There are a lot of Chinese fast food joints in Vancouver. So many that we almost can’t keep up. We don’t know how many of them are actually good; Tre and I are picky. And even though we like to hit different places, we often return to our usual spots — Hon’s is one of them. Hon’s is a Vancouver institution. They’ve been around for something like over thirty odd years. That’s pretty good for a restaurant, so they must be doing something right.

TakeoutBaba Sweets & Restaurant

[rating:4]

Tre and I are really into Indian style food. We like how the spices, textures and sauces marry with one another. What’s unusual about Baba Sweets is — it’s located in the burbs. Burnaby to be exact. We have driven by this place occasionally and have noticed the bright, banana yellow sign, but never actually checked it out. A friend had recommended it, so we thought we would give it a go.

DinnerThe Eatery

The Eatery

Tre and I love sushi! But there are only a few spots we eat at and The Eatery is one of them. We love their unconventional way of making sushi, the funky atmosphere, and the awesome tunes they usually have blaring while you’re dining. The mood is alive, but dark. You won’t find many lights on around here — great for the environment. Candles are lit up in beer bottles and placed on all the tables throughout the dining room. The ambiance is romantic yet dark with retro pieces meticulously placed throughout.

BreakfastSubeez for Breakfast

[rating:4]

I have mentioned before how I like Subeez’s coffee. It’s a good cup of strong americano with a slight frothy foam on the top. I could drink cups of this if I didn’t get the caffeine jitters after awhile. Not only does Subeez makes a good cup of coffee, they make a pretty decent breakfast — most of the time.

DinnerPhnom Penh

[rating:5]

Case took me to Phnom Penh way back when they still had a restaurant on West Broadway. She promised me the best Pork Chops I’ve ever tasted and some awesome Cambodian noodle soup. We were regulars until the Broadway location closed a long while ago. All that remains is the Chinatown location. It is a true hidden gem, garnering all sorts of awards, even getting a well-received visit by Anthony Bourdain, famed auteur and all-around foodie bad boy.
