Tre and I love a good cup of joe. We’re no coffee connoisseurs by any means, but it’s not that hard to distinguish a good cup and a bad one. We’re not particularly crazy about the coffee being served at the coffee chains. It’s boring, robotic, inconsistent and overly priced — but they are there as a last resort when we desperately need a caffeine fix. Most of our friends are also coffee drinkers, so when one of them suggested we go for coffee at Cito Espresso, located across from Urban Fare in Yaletown, we were pretty hyped.

He mentioned the coffee was pretty good, and since there aren’t many good spots besides Subeez– we love Subeez coffee by the way, and Beans and Beyond Cafe in Steveston makes a mean caramel machiatto — I was looking forward to it.

Cito Espresso resembles a modern loft with a minimalist touch to it. The high ceilings and contemporary seating is a nice change from your typical coffee spot. Tre and I ordered an Americano, and a little sweet treat on the side. There’s nothing like a good sweet to go with a good strong cup of joe. There were so many tasty looking sweets, it was hard choose. But we finally decided on a marzipan cookie. The coffee was good — good beans, brewed just to our liking. The cookie was delicious — lightly dusted with icing sugar and sweetened just right. Cito Espresso has shown that it’s still possible to be both original and serve quality coffee in this over saturated market.
