Tucked away on West Broadway, is the well hidden Favorito Pasta Trattoria. They’ve been serving Northern Italian cuisine here for years. With the Canada Line construction putting a damper on small businesses, we’re happy to see this place still hanging on. We’ve walked by here many times before thinking that it’s closed, but it’s not. The tinted windows and dim lighting only make it seem that way.

I was in the mood for some home style Taiwanese food, so we decided to hit Taiwanese Classical Cuisine in the Richmond Public Market. To our surprise it was closed for the holiday. Disappointed and hungry, we turned our attention to its neighbor, Hong Kong Cafeteria. We’ve been curious about this spot in the past. Its bright yellow sign, and somewhat tasty looking pictures make it looked promising. A promise not to return that is.

Normally, we avoid doing reviews on chain restaurants. But, I couldn’t let this one pass. It’s snowing like crazy out and Tre and I wanted to grab a quick bite to eat before we head home. The closest spot nearby was Knight and Day. We haven’t been here in ages. The food is over priced, not tasty and the restaurant usually have a stale odour wafting through the air. But I figure it’s been a while, maybe it’s improved.

I know we give the suburbs a hard time when it comes to good food. But it’s for good reason. Most of it does suck. There are some decent restaurants, but they’re only good when measured against other suburban joints. The real question is, are there any restaurants good enough to draw out the city folk? I think No. 1 Beef Noodle would be a good contender. It’s located in a desolate complex on the corner of Willingdon and Moscrop in Burnaby, kitty corner to BCIT.

There’s been few restaurants whose re-opening has been as heavily anticipated as Moderne Burger. After going down for the count for renovations, and then running into all sorts of problems that delayed the re-opening for months, the question remains: Is Moderne Burger still worth the hype?
