Yaletown has a new neighbourhood go-to lunchtime spot. And its name is DD Mau — a scrappy, young upstart serving up Banh Mi the likes you haven’t seen before. In a parallel universe, if Banh Mi were to originate from the wilds of the Pacific Northwest instead of the streets of Saigon, this might have been the result.

The Oakwood on West 4th avenue brings a little bit of the rustic Pacific Northwest to Vancouver’s Kitsilano neighbourhood. Professing to be a Canadian Bistro, whatever that may be, they offer a meat and potato type menu with a modern bent alongside a careful selection of BC draft beer — all, in a log cabin influenced setting complete with antler horns over the fireplace.

Since our original posting, Fat Dragon has closed down.

A Fat Dragon has landed in East Vancouver’s Strathcona neighbourhood. Fusing barbecue from the American South and stoking it with Asian Flavours, the latest outing from the same folks at Campagnolo and Campagnolo Roma add a stylistically modern eatery to an otherwise forsaken part of town.
