Everything Cafe is the latest offering from Heather and Co. located just on the edge of Chinatown. The cafe serves up a selection of sandwiches made from the same kitchen providing Salty Tongue Deli and coffee from Intelligentsia.

Inside, Everything Cafe kicks up the style factor with high, exposed ceilings, bare concrete walls and high-back, leather banquettes. Hipsters, bums and tourists sit along the walls or at the bar, sipping on Americanos and munching away at specialty sandwiches (we hear the meatball sandwiches are killer).

The barista informed us that the kitchen is closed on weekends, and only pre-made sandwiches and baked goods are served. No problem, the sandwiches in the front cooler looked tasty enough. I had the breakfast sandwich — a medium fried egg, cheese and bacon on a grilled bun. Super basic, yet well executed. This beats most breakfast sandwiches anywhere.
Case had the Salami sandwich — beautiful select slices of salami, brie-ish like cheese and a smear of pesto sauce on grilled focaccia.

Dessert for breakfast? Why not? The miniature desserts up front were calling us, specifically the Lemon Meringue Pie — a dollop of torched meringue with marshmallow-like texture over a zesty lemon wafer. It went beautifully with our Americano. The only complaint was, although the marshmallow texture was neat, it was too firm and sticky and kept separating from the pie.
Our meal, including four Americanos came to just under $29 including taxes and tips. We thought the Salami sandwich was a bit pricey, but at around $4, the breakfast sandwich was a pretty good deal.
It’s still early to tell whether Everything Cafe is going to hit it off. But this is a good start.
Perfect for: Sandwich for breakfast, or dessert for breakfast.
