BreakfastHavana

[rating:3]

At Havana, there’s usually a packed house full of people hanging out on the patio watching other people and having some great food. This Latino/Cuban inspired restaurant is located in one of Vancouver’s most diverse neighborhood’s known as the Drive. Doubling as an occasional art gallery, Havana draws inspiration from old Havana in Cuba — its rustic decor, old writings on the wall and red velvet booths and chairs offers a funky, casual and outgoing setting. They serve brunch, dinner and late night tapas daily. Tre and I like to come here for brunch and hang out on the patio. The patio is equipped enormous heating lamps — so, whether rain or shine you can choose to sit outside and enjoy your breakfast and do some people watching. That’s pretty much what its all about when you’re on the Drive — a good cup of Joe, some food and people watching.

DinnerSitar Indian Restaurant

[rating:4]

Located in historic Gastown, this great Indian restaurant has been serving locals since 1983. They have classic Indian cuisine such as tasty Tandoori dishes and yummy vegetarian dishes. The interior has deep red accents throughout — the ambiance here is somewhat old, drab and pretty quiet for a restaurant. The nice thing is being able to people watch while you eat — and believe me, there are some interesting characters out there in this part of town.

BreakfastGypsy Rose Cafe

Gypsy Rose

Gypsy Rose. The name itself is interesting. This cute little crepe cafe located along West Fourth is a must try. The French style inspired cafe has wide opened windows during the summer and is a great way to start off the morning. Gypsy Rose offers a variety of delicious crepes made fresh to order with a choice of fresh fruit, delicious sauteed potatoes — at a extra cost, or it’s great simply on its own. These crepes aren’t the same as those along Robson at Cafe Crepe. They’re slightly thicker and look more like a chapati — an Indian flat bread — except these are thinner, softer in texture, and sweeter in taste.

DinnerNo. 9 Restaurant

Number 9 Restaurant

Vancouver sorely lacks a good source of late night eateries. I don’t understand why, as a city, we shut down so early. However, if you extend your search out to Richmond, you’ll likely find yourself at a place like No. 9 Restaurant, located in Lansdowne Mall. Now, a 24 hour Chinese restaurant isn’t the first thing thing that normally comes to mind when you think suburban mall — but this is where night owls flock in search of sustenance.

LunchPhat Sandwiches

[rating: 4]

PHAT stands for Pretty Hot And Tasty. Forgive the cheesy acronym. The food here is actually good. I promise. PHAT is a Montreal-style smoked meat sandwich shop, famous for its mile-high stacks of smoked meat, yam fries and during the on-season, the occasional Canuck sighting. Luongo and Linden in particular have been rumoured to dine here.
