LunchWo Fung Dessert

[rating:5]

When Aberdeen Centre in Richmond re-opened a while ago, Case and I were curious to see how it would turn out. Years later, the mall still feels like some sort of failed experiment. There are some ridiculously popular stores such as the Japanese dollar store, Daiso — yet there are some retails units that remain unoccupied, leaving some parts of the mall feeling abandoned. The food court on the upper floor seems to mimic this model. Now, the food court isn’t typically where one would go to find great food — but Wo Fung Dessert is no ordinary fast food joint.

SnacksBanana Kit Kat

[rating:1]

Tre and I have never been a fan of fruit flavored chocolates, but when we saw a bag of banana flavored Kit Kat, we couldn’t resist. Banana Kit Kat? That’s crazy. But resisted we should have. This shit is weird: disturbing, yellow coloured, squishy looking chiclets. Sickly yellowish sugar coating cover the outside of these little suckers — and the inside — sort of resemble a kit kat. If you like bananas dipped in chocolate, then you might like these. I, however, would prefer to return them if I could.

DessertLa Casa Gelato Ice Cream Factory

[rating: 4]

As summer begins to wind down in Vancouver, Case and I are trying to cram in as many summer traditions as we can before the cold hits. One of those traditions is heading down to Venables and participating in the insanity that is known as Las Casa Gelato, or as some of the locals like to refer to it: The Ice Cream Factory.

SnacksCito Espresso

[rating:3]

Tre and I love a good cup of joe. We’re no coffee connoisseurs by any means, but it’s not that hard to distinguish a good cup and a bad one. We’re not particularly crazy about the coffee being served at the coffee chains. It’s boring, robotic, inconsistent and overly priced — but they are there as a last resort when we desperately need a caffeine fix. Most of our friends are also coffee drinkers, so when one of them suggested we go for coffee at Cito Espresso, located across from Urban Fare in Yaletown, we were pretty hyped.

DessertCheesecake Etc.

[rating:3]

I love dessert, especially cheesecake. There aren’t that many great tasting cheesecakes out there — aside from some friends of ours who make a dynamite cheesecake to die for (Headnod to Matt and Ranja)! At Cheesecake Etc, their cheesecakes are pretty decent. It’s been a South Granville landmark since 1979. Cheesecake Etc. is a dessert house with jazz music on occasional nights. Dim lighting adds to this place’s jazzy and romantic ambiance. It’s a popular destination for people to bring their dates. Next door, Tigers, is owned and operated by the same people. They also serve cheesecake and caters to larger groups. Both spots are quite popular.
