Gypsy Rose

Gypsy Rose. The name itself is interesting. This cute little crepe cafe located along West Fourth is a must try. The French style inspired cafe has wide opened windows during the summer and is a great way to start off the morning. Gypsy Rose offers a variety of delicious crepes made fresh to order with a choice of fresh fruit, delicious sauteed potatoes — at a extra cost, or it’s great simply on its own. These crepes aren’t the same as those along Robson at Cafe Crepe. They’re slightly thicker and look more like a chapati — an Indian flat bread — except these are thinner, softer in texture, and sweeter in taste.

The menu is quite extensive. It’s divided between sweets — for the sweet tooth, and savoury — filled with your choice of meat, cheese, eggs or vegetables. I usually get the buttered sugar crepe with a side of fresh fruit. A light dusting of icing sugar, whip cream and syrup finish off my crepe.

Tre usually orders his crepe with ham, cheese and spinach with a side of potatoes. The potatoes are really good. We’re still trying to figure out what they put in the potatoes. They’re sauteed in some kind of orange sauce that’s really tasty. Tre and I are regulars here — the nice service and relaxing atmosphere keep us coming back.
