Beefy Beef Noodle

Beefy Beef noodles on Main street  is the sister restaurant to No. 1 Beef Noodle in Burnaby. The larger space and modern decor offers more seating and space for family and friends. But how does Beefy Beef noodles stack up to the original?

The parking lot at Beefy Beef Noodle is just as bad as the Burnaby location. It’s small and cramped and people ignore any and all posted parking instructions. Luckily, there is street parking right on Main Street, so we can avoid the parking lot altogether.

Tre and I arrived during lunch time and were able to grab a seat near the window. Next to us was this loud, annoying kid who was entertaining us (or himself) by repeatedly singing the chicken dance song and performing the moves during the entire meal. It was funny at first — but not so funny after the first minute.

Beefy Beef Noodle

Beefy Beef Noodle’s menu is quite extensive compared to No.1 Beef noodle, which made it difficult for me to decide what to order. Our picks — spicy beef noodle soup, Taiwanese fried noodles, and two cups of bubble coffee tea mix (aka yin yang) minus the balls.

My Taiwanese fried noodles arrived quickly and was quite tasty, but I have yet to find a restaurant to top Tre’s Auntie’s version. The fried vermicelli noodles with cabbage and pork were seasoned nicely — not too wet or dry. The portion was huge and I ended up taking the rest home. Tre’s beef noodles took an unusually long time but was pretty decent. The broth was nice and spicy but had a slightly different taste, and it had a grainier texture which made the soup not as smooth. We both agreed that the noodle soup at No.1 Beef Noodle’s was better. Our huge mugs of coffee bubble tea was delicious and hit the spot, but it was a seriously giant mug. I think next time we’ll share one.

Including taxes and tips, our bill came to just under $25. Just like the Burnaby location, keep the plastic at home, this place is strictly cash only. Beefy Beef Noodle is decent and so was their service. And though we prefer No.1 Beef noodle strictly for the soup, we wouldn’t mind returning to Beefy Beef Noodle to try out the other tasty looking items on their menu.

Perfect for: Taiwanese eats and perhaps some live entertainment? Errr… maybe not.
