Original Halibuts II on Northeast Alberta Street in Portland, is a fish and chip restaurant wrapped in a Blues lounge. While Original Halibuts next door resembles what most of us would recognized as a seaside chip shop, Halibuts II marries the odd couple of Blues and fish and chips.

Ping is Portland’s answer to modern Asian fare, presenting a seemingly unpredictable blend of various Asian and Southeast Asian cuisine with a distinctly contemporary, North American twist. It is fusion cuisine to be sure. Something we tend to avoid, but this is Portland — a city full of surprises.

Pine State Biscuits on Southeast Belmont Street is a cute, older storefront located on a residential block in Portland. This was the first location to open up. It may be smaller and older than their newer sister restaurant on Alberta Street, but that doesn’t stop the people from lining up out the door for their biscuits.
