This year’s winner of Russell’s Golden Stag Homebrew Contest is home brewer, Dave Shea’s, Nautical Disaster Barleywine: a strong, deeply malted ale with a slight bitter finish. We hear it ages well, so stock up for a subsequent winter tasting. This limited release is available at select BC Liquor Stores, and of course fine independents.

Chinatown’s Harvest is a community grocery store that sells seasonally fresh produce and is attached to a makeshift kitchen serving an extremely short, eclectic menu of Ramen, Udon and the occasional homemade waffle.

Longtail Kitchen has landed at the food courts of New Westminster’s River Market — taking over the space once occupied by the short-lived Fathom. Maenam’s Angus An brings a slightly more casual take on Thai cuisine to the Royal City.

Portland’s Alameda Klickitat Pale Ale is an amber hued pale ale that’s light and smooth with hints of caramel. Available at select local independents or Portland’s Belmont Station.
