Since the original posting of this article, Eataly has since closed and the Italian restaurant, L'Antipasto has opened in its place.

Eataly is a Bread Garden-esque cafe with an abbreviated selection of soups, sandwiches and pastries. Taking over the space that Mexican chocolatier Chocoatl once occupied on Mainland Street, Eataly gives lunchers in Yaletown yet another option.

Located on Nanaimo Street just North of 1st Avenue, Song Huong Vietnamese restaurant sits by itself on a somewhat deserted block. Inside, Song Huong has a strange mix of kitschy decor, friendly service and beef noodle soup.

Tucked away in a brick building just off Main Street is The Whip Restaurant Gallery. The loungy loft space showcases works of artists while serving contemporary food to the locals. The laid back atmosphere is comfy and one could easily waste time just dawdling away.

The Reef on Commercial Drive is about as far away from the Caribbean Islands as you can get, but the laid back vibe is a fitting match with The Drive’s bohemian denizens. As the Vancouver’s spring season begins to set in, the Caribbean influenced menu at The Reef may be the next best thing for those that won’t be seeing a tropical destination any time soon.
