Coco et Olive (Broadway)

Nestled in a sleepy corner of the West Broadway neighbourhood, near UBC and opposite a hardware outfit, sits Coco et Olive — a rustic, French cafe serving up a fresh array of grilled sandwiches, coffee, and baked goods. A few outdoor tables and seats allow patrons to bask in the beautiful sun we’ve been blessed with this summer while enjoying an early afternoon picnic lunch.

Amigos

Amigos on Front Street in Maui is a small dive that resembles what could have been a cantina in an old Mexican village. The owner helped by playing it up a notch: her long curly hair up in a old school bun with a flower comb; heavy winged out eyeliner with blue eyeshadow; wearing high waisted black tight jeans and stilettos. She looked hard and rugged, and definitely not someone to mess with. But despite her tough demeanor, she was friendly and the food — pretty darn good.

Ba Le French Sandwiches, in Lahaina Cannery Mall, Maui serves a variety of Vietnamese dishes like Pho and spring rolls. As their name suggests, they also serve the Vietnamese take on a French sandwich, the Banh Mi.

Ashiana Tandoori is an Indian restaurant located on Kingsway near Knight Street. Despite the aging exterior, the quaintly decorated Ashiana takes you away to the South East, to give a little taste of Indian cuisine.

Fu Lin

Rating / ★★☆☆☆

We stumbled upon Fu Lin, a Chinese restaurant on the edge of Front Street, passing by it severals times during our visit. I don’t think Maui is really known for good Chinese cuisine (Honolulu might have that distinction), but we were curious nonetheless.
