We stumbled on to another member of the Kit Kat Family Tree — Ginger Ale Kit Kat. The Ginger Ale Kit Kat is coated in white chocolate and doesn’t taste like Ginger Ale at all, but more like lemon meringue with a subtle carbonated tickle. I’m not sure how the Kit Kat folks at Nestle pulled this one out of the bag, it’s pretty yummy! Unlike the terrible Banana Kit Kat fiasco (shudder), this one is a winner.

Deschutes Brewery & Public House

We heard Portland has a thriving microbrew community. So we couldn’t justify leaving the city without trying at least one of their famed brew pubs. Deschutes Brewery & Public House, located in the Pearl district, is similar to any brew pub from one of Vancouver’s own Mark James Group — local brewery, local eatery, all nicely wrapped in a slick marketing and merchandising mini empire complete with t-shirts and souvenirs.

King’s Cafe on East Hastings is part of a dying breed of mom & pop diners — restaurants that almost always have a characteristic charm that makes them special. Whether it’s the home cooked food, the people, the atmosphere or service. Sometimes the food isn’t all that good, but there always appears to me something unique about these places.
